The Eurogame that is probably the most popular boardgame of all time probably due to the game containg large swaths of awesome. Players take on the roles of settlers of an island. They generate, trade and use five types of resources to build more settlements, roads, cities and development cards in order to acquire points. Typically, the winner is the first to reach ten points.

The game is reasonably easy to learn and serves as a good introduction to most other Eurogames. It suits between 3-4 players, or 5-6 players (with the relevant expansions).

Many members of Sutekh own a copy of Settlers of Catan. There are several variations and expansions of the base game.

Expansions

  • Seafarers of Catan
  • Cities & Knights
  • Event Cards
    • Removes all dice rolling from the game, instead replacing it with a deck of 36 numbered cards representing every possible dice combination -- in theory, this makes the game less random -- but in practice, you end up screaming when all the 8's end up right down the bottom of the pile.
