Heavy Gear is a roleplaying setting that uses the SilCore ruleset. It is also a miniatures wargame.

Setting

Heavy Gear is set in the year 6000AD, on a planet called Terra Nova, which is an ex-Earth colony. Separated from Earth by many thousands of light-years, travel is made possible by the use of gateships, which open a Tannhauser Gate, massively shortening the distances between habitable planets.

After colonisation and settlement, the Earth government, wracked by internal strife, pulled its massive and expensive gateship fleet back to Earth to avoid having it lost in the interplanetary cili war. Terra Nova was thus cut off from Earth.

It has just been re-discovered by a stronger, neo-fascist Earth, with designs to use its armies of genetically-engineered supersoldiers and hovertanks to take the colony back by force. Against this new threat, the Terra Novans use their armies of Gears, or mecha, supported by landships and striders.

Nations of Terra Nova

There are seven major nations on Terra Nova, in two loose alliance blocs.

The South NB: yet to be filled in

Other Colonies

Other than Terra Nova, Earth founded a number of interplanetary colonies:

  • Caprice - An inhospitable, moon-like world, almost devoid of atmosphere. The inhabitants live entirely in Gommorah, a huge city, built deep within a giant canyon, in the only location on the planet where the atmosphere is rich enough to support life. Caprice is of strategic importance because its system contains the Tannhauser Gates that lead to the rest of the colonies.
  • Atlantis - A colony that is almost entirely underwater.
  • Utopia - Once an attempt to createa socialest heavan, Utopia was the victim of a nuclear holocaust. It is now a barren, almost lifeless world.
  • Botany Bay - An entire planet colonised by Earth simply to provide a penal colony to dump convicts on.
