Access Cards are a little bit like the Orange Union Member Cards, but they're different.

VSU and the University of Sydney Union

When VSU came through and everyone lost their funding, things had to change. Lame. It's John Howard's fault.

Being a member of the union (and SRC) is now free for all USyd students, however, this only allows you to vote in union (and SRC) elections. If you want union discounts, you need an Access Card.

What does an Access Card do?

An Access Card costs $99 (pretty cheap, considering that you used to have to pay $277 a year for union membership) and it grants you a 15% discount at all union outlets, and even better, nearly all the non-union outlets on campus. These include things like optometrists and dentists, as well as food outlets. This is a pretty good deal.

There are also dozens of non-campus business that give sizeable discounts to Access Card holders. For more information on the Access card partners, go to Access Benefits.

It also allows you to join university clubs & societies, and get discounts within those clubs and societies.

One of the really good things about it is that you don't have to be a union member to get an access card. So if you're not a student, you can still get an access card and enjoy all the benefits and discounts.

I'm really cheap, I don't want to pay $99. Can I still join Sutekh?

If you're too cheap to pay the $99, you can instead join a club or society by paying a $37 administrative fee. This fee lets you join ONE club (if you want to join a second club, you need to pay another $37 dollars) and you are not entitled to any discounts inside the club, or any union and campus discounts.

For Sutekh, if you join via the $37 admin fee, this means you pay full price at Pizza & Games and we don't give you a free drink at Beer & Cards. It also means you pay full price at all Sutekh events where Access Card holders would get a discount of anywhere between 15% - 50%. You also have to pay full price at Manning and all other campus outlets, and you don't get the cool off-campus discounts.

As well as buying an Access Card or a $37 token, you will still have to pay Sutekh $5 to join. The $37 does not go to us, it goes to the union.

But what if I'm a life member?

You still need an Access Card or $37 token. However, the $5 membership fee is waived. We would encourage everyone to get an Access card, it'll make your Sutekh experience much more enjoyable.

What impact does this have on Sutekh?

Sutekh will only recieve funding for Access Card holders. The funding we recieve means we can give you cool discounts and run really awesome events, like our enormous outing to HP6 that we're planning. If people don't get Access Cards, then not only do we have to charge you full price on everything all year, but we don't get extra cool money to do awesome shit with.
